About Berry Rum Rickey

The Berry Rum Rickey is a delightful twist on the classic Rickey cocktail, which traditionally combines lime juice, a base spirit, and carbonated water. This particular version uses dark rum as the base, adding a rich and robust flavor that pairs beautifully with the tartness of lime juice. The addition of simple syrup adds a touch of sweetness to balance the acidity, while the crème de mûre and raspberry liqueur introduce luscious berry notes, creating a harmonious blend of sweet and tart flavors. A dash of soda water provides a refreshing effervescence, making this cocktail a perfect choice for a warm evening.

The origins of the Rickey trace back to the late 19th century in Washington, D.C., where it was reportedly invented by bartender George A. Williamson in collaboration with Democratic lobbyist Colonel Joe Rickey. Traditionally made with gin or bourbon, the Rickey evolved over time to include various spirits, including rum. The Berry Rum Rickey is a modern adaptation that highlights the versatility of the original Rickey, incorporating fruity elements to enhance its appeal. This cocktail is a testament to the enduring popularity of the Rickey, demonstrating how classic cocktails can be reinvented with contemporary ingredients to suit current tastes.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!
