About Brandy Sangaree

The Brandy Sangaree is a classic cocktail that offers a delightful blend of rich and complex flavors. This drink is composed of 2 ounces of brandy, which serves as the robust base, providing warmth and depth. The slight sweetness is introduced through half a teaspoon of powdered sugar, balanced with a teaspoon of water to dissolve it seamlessly into the mixture. A splash of club soda adds a refreshing effervescence, making the drink light and easy to sip. The real twist comes with a tablespoon of port, a fortified wine that adds a layer of richness and a hint of fruitiness. Finally, a dusting of nutmeg on top gives the cocktail a warm, aromatic finish, making it perfect for both casual and sophisticated gatherings.

The sangaree family of drinks, to which the Brandy Sangaree belongs, has a storied history. Originating in the 18th and 19th centuries, sangarees were popular in both Europe and America. They are considered precursors to modern cocktails, often featuring a base spirit, sweeteners, and spices. The Brandy Sangaree's inclusion of port and nutmeg hints at the luxurious tastes of the past, appealing to those who enjoyed a touch of decadence in their beverages. Over the years, the Brandy Sangaree has retained its charm as a classic cocktail, appreciated for its balance of flavors and its ability to transport drinkers to a bygone era of sophisticated sipping.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!
