Instructions

Caliope is a German recipe in origin. This recipe came from a K. VonSaxon in Rosenheim Germany, who says its a popular winter drink in the Alpen Ski Lodges, combining Italian, Austrian and German influences.Pour the Brandy, Creme de Cacao and soymilk into a cocktail shaker over 3 ice cubes. Shake well, and strain into a pousse-cafe glass. Add a shot of espresso, dust with nutmeg, and serve.

About Caliope

The Caliope cocktail is a sophisticated blend of rich and indulgent flavors, combining the warmth of brandy with the deep, chocolate notes of brown crème de cacao. The addition of smooth, creamy soymilk brings a velvety texture that balances the drink beautifully, while a shot of espresso adds a robust, aromatic finish. This cocktail is perfect for those who enjoy a drink that feels both comforting and luxurious, making it an ideal choice for an after-dinner treat or a cozy evening in.

The history of the Caliope is not well-documented, but it likely emerged as a creative twist on traditional coffee-based cocktails, such as the Brandy Alexander or the Espresso Martini. By incorporating soymilk, it caters to those who prefer or require a dairy-free option, while still delivering a satisfying and indulgent experience. The use of brandy, a classic spirit known for its smoothness and depth, complements the espresso's intensity, resulting in a harmonious blend that showcases the versatility of these ingredients.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Cordial or Sherry Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
