Alcoholic Cocktail Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass 7 ingredients

Recipe

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 8 Mint Leaves
  • 1/2 oz Creme de Cacao
  • 2 dashes Chocolate Bitters
  • Mint Sprig (Garnish)
  • Chocolate Shavings (Garnish)
  • Crushed Ice

Instructions

In a rocks glass, muddle the mint leaves with the creme de cacao to release the oils. Pour in the bourbon and add 2 dashes of chocolate bitters. Pack the glass with crushed ice and stir gently to mix the flavors. Tops with a sprig of mint and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings.

Tip: Firmly slap the mint sprig on the back of your hand before garnishing; this releases the oils to make the mint more aromatic.

About Chocolate Mint Julep

The Chocolate Mint Julep is a delightful twist on the classic Southern cocktail, the Mint Julep. This variant brings a sweet and chocolatey element to the mix, thanks to the inclusion of Crème de Cacao liqueur. The traditional base of bourbon whiskey provides a robust, warming foundation that pairs beautifully with the fresh, invigorating notes of mint, a hallmark of the original Julep. The addition of bitters adds complexity and balance, rounding out the flavors to create a sophisticated and refreshing drink that's perfect for sipping slowly.

The Mint Julep has a storied history, famously associated with the Kentucky Derby and Southern hospitality. By incorporating Crème de Cacao, the Chocolate Mint Julep offers a modern, indulgent spin that appeals to those with a penchant for both mint and chocolate. It's a fusion of classic American mixology and a bit of European flair, making it a versatile choice for both traditionalists and adventurous cocktail enthusiasts alike. This drink embodies a blend of refreshing mint with a touch of indulgence, ideal for warm afternoons or as a dessert cocktail.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
