Alcoholic Cocktail Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass 3 ingredients

Recipe

  • 3/4 oz Vermouth (Dry)
  • 2 - 1/2 oz Southern Comfort Peach
  • 1 dash Bitters

Instructions

Combine the Vermouth, Southern Comfort and Bitters with 2 - 3 ice cubes in a mixing glass. Stir gently, don't bruise the spirits and cloud the drink. Place a Maraschino Cherry in a chilled cocktail glass and strain the Whiskey mixture over the Cherry. Rub the cut edge of a twist of Lemon Peel over the rim of the glass and twist it over the drink to release the oils. Then drop it in, and serve.

About Comfort Manhattan

The Comfort Manhattan is a delightful twist on the classic Manhattan cocktail, featuring Southern Comfort as its star ingredient. This drink combines 2 1/2 ounces of Southern Comfort, a smooth, peach-flavored liqueur, with 3/4 ounce of dry vermouth and a dash of bitters. The Southern Comfort adds a sweet and fruity undertone, contrasting with the dry vermouth's herbal notes and the bitters' aromatic spice, creating a well-balanced and refreshing cocktail. This unique variation maintains the sophistication of the traditional Manhattan while introducing a playful sweetness that makes it approachable for a broader audience.

The history of the Comfort Manhattan is not as documented as its classic counterpart, the Manhattan, which originated in the late 19th century. However, the use of Southern Comfort in cocktails gained popularity in the mid-20th century as bartenders and home mixologists sought to experiment with new flavors and ingredients. Southern Comfort itself has a rich history, dating back to 1874 when it was created by bartender Martin Wilkes Heron in New Orleans. The Comfort Manhattan likely emerged from a desire to incorporate this distinctively flavored liqueur into a well-loved classic, offering a modern and regional twist that resonates with fans of both Southern Comfort and traditional whiskey-based cocktails.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
