About Dr. Funk

Dr. Funk is a classic tiki cocktail that combines a rich tapestry of flavors to create a uniquely refreshing experience. The drink features a base of dark rum, which provides a robust and warming foundation. This is complemented by the anise-flavored Pernod, adding a subtle herbal complexity. Fresh lemon juice and grenadine syrup contribute a bright, tangy sweetness, while the juice of a freshly squeezed lime introduces a zesty citrus note. A touch of sugar balances the tartness, and the addition of soda water lightens the cocktail, making it effervescent and exceptionally refreshing. Together, these ingredients create a harmonious blend of sweet, sour, and spicy flavors, perfect for enjoying in a relaxing tropical setting.

The cocktail is named after Dr. Bernhard Funk, a German physician who practiced in the South Pacific during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is credited with creating this drink as a medicinal tonic to ward off tropical ailments. Over time, Dr. Funk's recipe evolved and gained popularity, especially within tiki culture, which celebrated exotic and tropical-themed cocktails. While the original concoction may have been slightly different, the modern version of Dr. Funk remains a beloved choice for those seeking a taste of the islands with its intriguing blend of flavors.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Margarita Glass, though any glass works!
