About Dry Rob Roy

The Dry Rob Roy is a classic cocktail that embodies the elegance and simplicity of traditional Scotch-based drinks. It consists of 2 1/2 ounces of Scotch, 1 1/2 teaspoons of dry vermouth, and a twist of lemon peel for garnish. This cocktail is a variation of the Rob Roy, which is itself a take on the Manhattan, substituting Scotch for rye or bourbon whiskey and using dry vermouth instead of sweet. The result is a crisp, sophisticated drink with the smoky, complex notes of Scotch balanced by the subtle dryness of vermouth, and a zesty hint of lemon that enhances the overall flavor profile.

The Rob Roy was first created in 1894 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, named after the operetta "Rob Roy" by Reginald De Koven, which was based on the Scottish folk hero. The Dry Rob Roy offers a slightly different experience by opting for dry vermouth, which tempers the Scotch without adding sweetness, making it an appealing choice for those who appreciate a more austere cocktail. This drink captures the spirit of both the Scottish Highlands and refined cocktail culture, making it a timeless choice for lovers of Scotch and classic cocktails alike.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
