About Glogg - Christmas

Glögg is a traditional Scandinavian mulled wine, often enjoyed during the Christmas season. This festive beverage is known for its warming properties and aromatic blend of spices, making it a staple at holiday gatherings. The concoction typically begins with a base of dry white wine, which is then infused with vodka and dry sherry to add depth and complexity. The addition of spices such as cinnamon, cardamom seeds, and cloves creates a fragrant symphony of flavors, while bitter orange peel provides a citrusy twist. Sweetened with sugar, Glögg strikes a delightful balance between spice and sweetness, offering a comforting and invigorating drink that embodies the spirit of the holidays.

Historically, Glögg has its roots in the Nordic countries and can be traced back to the 16th century. It evolved from the practice of adding spices to wine to mask imperfections and enhance flavor, a method that became particularly popular in colder climates where warming drinks were appreciated. Over time, Glögg became associated with Christmas, reflecting the season's emphasis on warmth and togetherness. Today, it remains a beloved tradition, with variations found throughout Scandinavia, each region adding its own unique touch to this classic holiday drink.

This punch or party drink is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Cordial or Sherry Glass, though any glass works!
