Alcoholic Coffee, Tea, or Cocoa Cordial or Sherry Glass 9 ingredients

Recipe

  • 4 Orange Peel strips
  • 4 Lemon Peel strips
  • 16 whole Cloves
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 2 tsp Sugar
  • 1/4 pint Irish Whiskey
  • 3/4 pint strong and hot Coffee
  • Powdered Sugar (Sugar)
  • Whipped Cream

Instructions

Stud the strips of Orange and Lemon Peel with 2 cloves each and place them in a frying pan or chafing dish with the stick of Cinnamon and the 2 teaspoons of Sugar. Place over moderate heat, stirring occationally with a wooden spoon, until the Sugar has melted. Pour the Irish Whiskey into the pan and light a match to the liquid. (Be sure to step back since the flame will flare up instantly.) Shake the pan to and fro slowly until the flame dies out. Pour in the hot Coffee all at once and let it come to a simmer. Remove from the heat. Rub the cut edge of a strip of Lemon Peel around the inside of each the Irish Coffee cup and dip it into a dish of Sugar so that the Sugar adheres to the inside rim. Pour in the Coffee, trying not to disturb the Sugar. Top each serving with a dollop of Whipped Cream.

About Irish Coffee #3

Irish Coffee #3 is a delightful twist on the classic Irish coffee, known for its warming and invigorating qualities. The drink combines rich, strong coffee and smooth Irish whiskey, which serve as the foundation of this comforting beverage. The addition of vibrant citrus notes from orange and lemon peel strips, along with the aromatic spices of whole cloves and a cinnamon stick, create a complex and fragrant profile. A touch of sweetness is introduced with sugar, while the final flourish of whipped cream provides a luxurious texture and a gentle contrast to the bold flavors beneath. The drink is finished with a dusting of powdered sugar, adding a subtle hint of sweetness and an elegant presentation.

Historically, Irish coffee was created in the early 1940s by Joe Sheridan, a chef at the Foynes Airbase in Ireland. He crafted the drink to warm up and comfort passengers arriving on transatlantic flights. The original Irish coffee was a simple yet effective blend of strong coffee, Irish whiskey, sugar, and cream. Over the years, this iconic beverage has inspired countless variations, such as Irish Coffee #3, which enhances the traditional recipe with additional spices and citrus elements for a more intricate flavor experience. Today, Irish coffee remains a beloved classic, celebrated for its ability to bring warmth and cheer on a chilly day.

This coffee, tea, or cocoa is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Cordial or Sherry Glass, though any glass works!
