Alcoholic Cocktail Highball Glass 5 ingredients

Recipe

  • 8-10 Mint leaves
  • 1/2 oz Simple Syrup
  • 2 oz Irish Whiskey
  • Mint Sprig (Garnish)
  • Crushed Ice

Instructions

In a highball glass, muddle the mint leaves and simple syrup. Fill the glass half-way with crushed ice. Pour in the Irish whiskey, and stir until the glass feels cold. Top with more crushed ice to form a dome. Garnish with a mint sprig.

Firmly slap the mint sprig on the back of your hand before garnishing; this releases the oils to make the mint more aromatic.

About Irish Julep

The Irish Julep is a refreshing twist on the classic mint julep, substituting the traditional bourbon with smooth and flavorful Irish whiskey. This cocktail combines the aromatic freshness of mint leaves with the sweetness of simple syrup, creating a balanced and invigorating beverage. The use of Irish whiskey adds a distinctive character to the drink, imparting a rich, malty depth that complements the crisp mint and sugary notes perfectly. Served over crushed ice, the Irish Julep is a delightful cocktail that is both cooling and satisfying.

The origins of the julep date back to the 18th century, where it was initially consumed as a medicinal concoction. The classic mint julep gained popularity in the Southern United States, particularly as a signature drink of the Kentucky Derby. The Irish Julep, while not as steeped in tradition as its bourbon counterpart, reflects the adaptability and international appeal of the julep formula. By incorporating Irish whiskey, this variation pays homage to Ireland's rich whiskey heritage while offering a novel, yet timeless, cocktail experience.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
