About King Willy

The King Willy cocktail is a vibrant and visually striking drink, known for its bright green hue, courtesy of the Midori Melon Liqueur. This liqueur, with its sweet and fruity melon flavor, serves as the foundation of the cocktail, creating a refreshing and exotic taste profile. The addition of a few drops of Green Curacao enhances both the color and the citrusy undertone, while soda (preferably lemon-lime) adds effervescence and a balancing zest. A few drops of grenadine provide a subtle sweetness and a hint of red, which can create a beautiful layered effect when it sinks to the bottom of the glass. Together, these ingredients make the King Willy not only a delight to taste but also a feast for the eyes.

The origins of the King Willy cocktail are somewhat obscure, as many creative drinks often emerge from the playful experimentation of bartenders rather than formal invention. It likely draws inspiration from the mid-20th century tiki and tropical cocktail trends, which celebrated vibrant colors and fruity flavors. The use of melon and citrus liqueurs aligns with the tiki movement's love for exotic and unconventional ingredients. While the King Willy may not have an extensive historical background, its appeal lies in its refreshing taste and eye-catching appearance, making it a popular choice for those looking to enjoy a fun and lively beverage at social gatherings.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!
