About Ojen Cocktail

The Ojen Cocktail is a classic drink that highlights the unique flavor of Ojen, an anise-flavored liqueur. The cocktail is composed of 2 ounces of Ojen, which brings a distinctive licorice-like taste and aroma to the forefront. A dash of Peychaud's Bitters adds a subtle complexity with its herbal and slightly sweet notes. The cocktail is rounded off with a teaspoon of sugar, which balances the strong flavors, and half an ounce of water, which helps to dilute and meld the ingredients into a smooth, refreshing drink.

Historically, the Ojen Cocktail gained popularity in New Orleans, where Ojen enjoyed a cult following, especially during Mardi Gras festivities. The liqueur was originally produced in Spain, and when production ceased in the late 20th century, the remaining bottles became prized possessions. The cocktail reflects the creativity and adaptability of New Orleans' cocktail culture, which embraced Ojen's distinctive flavor and incorporated it into a drink that is both traditional and unique. Today, the Ojen Cocktail is a nod to this historical spirit and the vibrant cocktail scene of New Orleans.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
