  • 1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao

Instructions

The Phoenix was created by Joe Svendsen in Decorah, Iowa. The drink contains all colors of the mythological bird the phoenix. The "fire" comes from the Tequila, and the sweet finish from the Grenadine starts the whole process over again. The feather garnish is just a fun way to remind the drinker of the meaning of the drink.Add a few ice cubes to an old-fashioned glass, and add the Tequila, Orange Juice, Blue Curacao and Grenadine. Stir with a straw. Garnish with a small Red, Blue or Orange feather on top of drink if available.

About Phoenix

The Phoenix cocktail is a vibrant and visually striking drink that embodies the mythological bird it's named after, known for rising from its ashes. This cocktail features a beautiful gradient of colors, reminiscent of a fiery sunset. The combination of tequila, blue curaçao, grenadine syrup, and orange juice creates a layered effect, with the deep red of the grenadine settling at the bottom, the bright orange in the middle, and the brilliant blue on top. The flavors are just as captivating as the appearance, with the smooth, slightly smoky notes of gold tequila blending seamlessly with the sweet and citrusy tang of blue curaçao and orange juice. The grenadine adds a sweet, fruity undertone, creating a balanced and refreshing drink that's perfect for any occasion.

The origins of the Phoenix cocktail are somewhat obscure, as is often the case with many mixed drinks. However, it likely emerged as part of the modern cocktail renaissance, where bartenders and mixologists sought to create visually appealing and flavorful drinks that captivate the senses. The use of tequila and blue curaçao suggests an influence from tropical and Mexican-inspired cocktails. Despite its mysterious beginnings, the Phoenix has secured its place as a favorite among those who appreciate both the aesthetic appeal and the delightful taste of a well-crafted cocktail.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
