About Scotch Old Fashioned

The Scotch Old Fashioned is a distinguished twist on the classic Old Fashioned cocktail, substituting the traditional bourbon or rye whiskey with the rich, complex flavors of Scotch whisky. This cocktail combines the smoky, peaty notes of Scotch with the bittersweet complexity of Angostura bitters, the subtle sweetness of sugar, a splash of water to mellow the mix, and the aromatic zest of an orange peel. Garnished with a cherry, the Scotch Old Fashioned offers a delightful blend of flavors that is both sophisticated and robust.

The origins of the Old Fashioned cocktail trace back to the early 19th century, with its first recorded mention appearing in the 1806 edition of a New York newspaper, which defined a cocktail as a potent concoction of spirits, bitters, water, and sugar. Over time, the Old Fashioned evolved, with variations emerging to suit different palates and preferences. The Scotch Old Fashioned, while not as common as its bourbon counterpart, has gained popularity for its unique take on the traditional recipe, providing a fresh yet familiar experience for whisky aficionados and cocktail enthusiasts alike.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
