Alcoholic Cocktail Collins Glass 3 ingredients

Recipe

  • 1 1/2 oz Vodka (Vanilla)
  • 1 1/2 oz Blue Curacao
  • 6 ozclear Soda (Lemon Lime)

Instructions

The "Sonic Screwdriver" recipe was invented by Liz Mulhern of Omaha Nebraska, as a "companion" drink to go along with her favorite TV show. This recipe was inspired by (and named for) the tool of choice used by the main character in the BBC Sci-Fi show "Doctor Who". The recipe keeps the very basic premise of the traditional screwdriver (Vodka and Orange) but uses Vodka (Vanilla) for sweetness, Blue Curacao for Orange flavor, and clear Lemon/Soda (Lemon Lime) in place of the Juice, to preserve the color of the Curacao and the citrus taste. The end result is still an Orange flavored Vodka beverage, but it is now sweeter, bubbly, and a striking Blue color that exactly matches the business end of the instrument used in "Doctor Who"... A Sonic Screwdriver. The recipe was originally posted in her online journal on July 18th, 2007. It has, since then, become a popular drink among her friends and family, and fellow fans of the show with whom she has shared the recipe.Half-fill a clear 12 oz. glass with ice. Pour 1.5 oz Vodka (Vanilla), 1.5 oz Blue Curacao, and 6 oz. CLEAR Lemon/Soda (Lemon Lime) over the ice. Stir lightly, and Enjoy!

About Sonic Screwdriver

The Sonic Screwdriver is a vibrant and playful twist on the classic Screwdriver cocktail, drawing inspiration from the popular science fiction series, "Doctor Who." This colorful concoction combines 1 1/2 oz of vanilla vodka with 1 1/2 oz of blue curaçao, creating a striking blue hue that mimics the color of the Doctor's iconic tool, the Sonic Screwdriver. The drink is topped with 6 oz of lemon-lime clear soda, adding a refreshing fizz and a citrusy zing to balance the sweetness of the liqueur. The vanilla vodka introduces a subtle, creamy undertone that rounds out the flavor profile, making the Sonic Screwdriver a delightful drink for fans and cocktail enthusiasts alike.

The history of the Sonic Screwdriver cocktail is linked to its namesake from "Doctor Who," a British television series with a cult following that began in 1963. While the traditional Screwdriver, a simple mix of vodka and orange juice, dates back to the mid-20th century, the Sonic Screwdriver variation is a more contemporary creation. It emerged as part of a trend of themed cocktails that pay homage to popular culture, appealing to fans who enjoy making a connection between their favorite shows and their social gatherings. The drink's vibrant color and playful name make it a popular choice for themed parties and sci-fi conventions.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Collins Glass, though any glass works!
