About Test Pilot

The Test Pilot is a classic tiki cocktail that offers a tantalizing blend of bold and nuanced flavors. It begins with the robust combination of both dark and light rums, providing a solid backbone of rich molasses and bright, citrusy notes. Orange liqueur adds a touch of sweetness and depth, while lime juice introduces a refreshing tartness. Falernum syrup, with its spicy ginger and clove undertones, complements the mix with a touch of exotic warmth. A few dashes of bitters add complexity, while a hint of absinthe or anise licorice liqueur brings an intriguing herbal edge, making each sip an adventurous exploration of taste.

Invented by Donn Beach, the legendary bartender and founder of the tiki bar movement, the Test Pilot emerged in the 1940s as a testament to the era's fascination with aviation and exotic escapism. Donn Beach, known for his flair in creating elaborate Polynesian-inspired cocktails, concocted the Test Pilot to capture the imagination and transport drinkers to far-off tropical locales. With its layered flavors and inventive use of spices and spirits, the Test Pilot remains a quintessential tiki drink, beloved for its ability to deliver a taste of adventure and a nod to the golden age of tiki culture.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

I think with some tweaking, this one could be amazing. I might update this review if I make one again. I think blended, this would hit the spot. It’s super refreshing. I only had dark rum, but I prefer it anyway.
