Instructions

The David G. (named after the inventor, David G. Norton) is the ultimate hot weather cocktail, but it can be enjoyed all year round (if you can find the ingredients). It is not too sweet and not too Sour, but it is a cornucopia of flavor bursting with fresh, citrus notes and crisp, bubbly effervescence. Very refreshing! This recipe was inspired by the classic Mint Julep and a great experience Dave Norton once had with Rum (Lemon). It coincidently has more than a passing resemblance to the Mojito as well, but this recipe was dreamed up before Dave ever heard of the Mojito. Special thanks for developing this recipe go to Daves wife Gabriele, his mother-in-law Isolde Werle, and his great friends Will and Stella Ristom for their patience and feedback while playing guinea pig during the numerous experiments in perfecting the blend.-In a chilled 15-16 oz. cooler or long drink glass, muddle the Syrup, Mint leaves, Juice and pulp from the 1/2 Lime, and Lemon zest. Note: for best results, break and partially tear the Mint leaves first to release their flavor and facilitate the muddling process. -Add Rum, Triple Sec, Lime Juice, and Bitters. -Fill glass approximately 2/3-3/4 full of cracked ice and stir briskly until the glass frosts. -Almost fill glass with Ginger Ale and stir gently to Mix ingredients throughout (including Mint). -Float a bar spoon of Rum (Dark) on top. -Garnish with a slice of Lime and a Mint sprig (allowing the Mint to protrude from the top). -Stick your nose right into the Mint while drinking and take a deep breath to enjoy the mixed aromas of the Lime, Mint, and Rum...it doesn't get any better!

About The David G.

The David G. is a refreshing and complex cocktail that artfully balances a blend of citrus and mint flavors. The base of the drink consists of lemon rum and triple sec, which introduce a vibrant citrus profile. This is complemented by 3 ounces of lime juice and a touch of simple syrup, providing a tart yet sweet undertone. Fresh mint leaves add an aromatic freshness, and a pinch of lemon enhances the citrusy theme. A dash of bitters contributes depth and complexity, while a splash of ginger ale imparts a subtle effervescence that rounds out the drink. Finally, a float of dark rum on top adds a rich, molasses-like finish, making this cocktail both layered and refreshing.

The origins of The David G. cocktail are somewhat obscure, lending an air of mystery to its creation. It is inspired by the classic rum-based cocktails that have long been favorites in tropical locales, yet it introduces a modern twist with its unique combination of ingredients. The drink is possibly named in honor of an individual or a place, reflecting a personal or regional touch. Regardless of its history, The David G. is celebrated for its balance of flavors and its ability to transport those who enjoy it to a tropical paradise with every sip.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Punch Bowl, Jug, or Pitcher, though any glass works!
