About Whiskey Smash

The Whiskey Smash is a refreshing cocktail that brings a vibrant twist to the classic bourbon experience. It combines the rich, caramel notes of bourbon whiskey with the tangy brightness of fresh lemon juice, balanced by the sweetness of simple syrup. The addition of fresh mint leaves provides an invigorating herbal aroma, making it both a delightful summer sipper and a year-round favorite. This cocktail is known for its simplicity and the way it highlights the individual ingredients, creating a harmonious blend that's both sweet and tart, with a minty freshness that elevates the whole experience.

The origins of the Whiskey Smash can be traced back to the mid-19th century, around the same time as its cousin, the Mint Julep. The first known publication of the Whiskey Smash recipe was in Jerry Thomas's seminal 1862 book, "How to Mix Drinks." The drink was initially seen as a variation of the julep, intended to be a lighter, more refreshing option. Over the years, it has maintained its popularity by adapting to modern tastes, becoming a staple in cocktail bars and home mixing alike for its approachable yet sophisticated flavor profile.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
