About Absinthe #2

Absinthe #2 is a homemade liqueur inspired by the traditional spirit known for its distinct herbal flavor and a rich history intertwined with art and culture. This concoction is crafted using a base of vodka, which serves as a neutral canvas to highlight the bold flavors of anise, licorice root, and wormwood. The anise extract imparts a sweet, licorice-like taste that is characteristic of classic absinthe, while the chopped licorice root adds depth and complexity. Wormwood, the most famous ingredient, contributes a slightly bitter note and holds a storied place in absinthe lore, often associated with the spirit's purported hallucinogenic properties. The addition of sugar balances the herbal bitterness, resulting in a harmonious blend of flavors.

Absinthe has a fascinating history that dates back to the late 18th century in Switzerland, where it was originally developed as a medicinal elixir. It quickly gained popularity in France, particularly among artists and writers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who dubbed it "La Fée Verte" or "The Green Fairy." Its association with creativity and bohemian culture, alongside controversial myths of madness and hallucinations, led to its eventual ban in many countries by the early 1900s. However, modern absinthe enjoys a revival, with regulations ensuring safe levels of thujone, the compound in wormwood once thought to cause its infamous effects. Absinthe #2 captures the essence of this storied spirit, offering a homemade version that pays homage to its intriguing past

This homemade liqueur is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Any Glass, though any glass works!
