About Black Opal

The Black Opal cocktail is a vibrant and visually striking drink that is reminiscent of the classic Long Island Iced Tea, but with a unique twist. This cocktail is a symphony of flavors, combining the robust profiles of vodka, gin, rum, and triple sec with the rich, fruity essence of blackberry liqueur and the bright, citrus notes of blue curacao. The addition of lemon-lime soda and sweet and sour mix adds a refreshing effervescence and a tangy sweetness that ties all the elements together, creating a harmonious and complex flavor profile. The resulting drink is not only delicious but also eye-catching, with a deep, dark hue that is as intriguing as a black opal gemstone.

The history of the Black Opal cocktail is less documented compared to other classic cocktails, but it is often seen as a contemporary variation on the Long Island Iced Tea, which originated in the 1970s. The Black Opal likely emerged in the late 20th century as bartenders and mixologists sought to experiment with and expand on the Long Island's popular formula by introducing different flavors and colors. Unlike its predecessor, the Black Opal's use of blackberry liqueur and blue curacao gives it its distinctive color and fruity undertones, making it a standout choice for those seeking a visually appealing and flavorful cocktail experience.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Beer Mug or Pilsner Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
