Instructions

Invented in New Zealand by Craig Johnstone.(2006). Drank in Kavos(2007). The Emerald Balrog may sound daring and believe me it is. It remains the undisputed king of all the shots and by far the strongest.Pour equal amounts of each of the three ingredients into a shot glass until full.

About Emerald Balrog

The Emerald Balrog is a potent and adventurous shot that blends the fiery essence of three robust spirits: vodka, tequila, and absinthe. With each spirit contributing a third of the shot, the drink offers a complex and intense flavor profile. Vodka provides a clean and neutral base, allowing the other ingredients to shine. Tequila introduces a warm, earthy kick with a touch of agave sweetness, while absinthe adds an aromatic and slightly bitter note, with its characteristic herbal and anise flavors. The combination of these spirits creates a shot that is both bold and exhilarating, capturing the adventurous spirit of its namesake creature, the Balrog.

The origins of the Emerald Balrog are shrouded in mystery, much like the mythical creature it is named after, which appears in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings." The drink likely emerged in the modern cocktail scene as a novelty shot, designed to challenge and intrigue those who dare to try it. Its name evokes images of a powerful and mythical entity, suggesting that the shot is not for the faint-hearted. The emerald hue, hinting at its vibrant and mystical nature, is reminiscent of the absinthe's green tint, adding an extra layer of allure to this daring concoction.

This shot is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Shot Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
