About Farthingale

The Farthingale cocktail is a refined and balanced libation that embraces the classic charm of vermouth and gin. Combining 1 oz of sweet vermouth and 1 oz of dry vermouth, this drink offers a harmonious blend of rich and herbal notes, creating a sophisticated base. The addition of 3/4 oz of gin enhances the drink with a botanical depth, while a dash of bitters adds a subtle complexity and a hint of spice. The result is a cocktail that is both elegant and approachable, perfect for those who appreciate the nuanced flavors of a well-crafted drink.

The name "Farthingale" conjures images of Renaissance elegance, possibly referencing the structured underskirt worn in that era, which adds a touch of historical intrigue to the cocktail. While the specific origins of the Farthingale cocktail are not widely documented, it is reminiscent of classic vermouth-forward cocktails that gained popularity in the early 20th century. Its use of both sweet and dry vermouth suggests an evolution from traditional recipes, offering a balanced and modern twist on the vermouth and gin pairing. Whether enjoyed as a pre-dinner aperitif or a sophisticated evening sipper, the Farthingale stands as a testament to the timeless appeal of well-matched flavors.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
