Instructions

Invented by Paul Bayly-Jones, named for the fact that it is something you never expect to find...A cocktail with a kick like Bruce Lee on horse steroids but a nice smooth taste.Pour 1.5 ounces each of Vodka, Rum (White) and Gin into a highball glass over two ice cubes. Add a good spash (approx .25 ounces) of angora Bitters and swirl with a metal stirring rod. Add 5 ounces of Pink Grapefruit Juice. Add 1.5 ounces of Simple Syrup. Slice a fresh Lime into a slice approximately 1/2 of an inch wide. Cut in half, squeezing one half directly into the drink (then drop the squeezed Lime half in). Make a small nick 2/3rds of the way up the second halfof Lime and use to rim the glass then as a garnish. Include a metal stirring rod.

About Flying Penguin

The Flying Penguin is a vibrant and zesty cocktail that combines the bold flavors of vodka, white rum, and gin with a refreshing mix of pink grapefruit and lime juices. The drink is sweetened with simple syrup and balanced with a splash of bitters, creating a complex and invigorating flavor profile. The tartness of the grapefruit and lime juices is beautifully complemented by the sweetness of the simple syrup, while the bitters add a subtle depth and sophistication. This cocktail is perfect for those who enjoy a drink that is both refreshing and full-bodied, making it an ideal choice for warm-weather gatherings or as a lively pre-dinner aperitif.

The origins of the Flying Penguin are not well-documented, and it seems to be a modern concoction that brings together elements of classic cocktail-making with contemporary tastes. The use of three different spirits—vodka, rum, and gin—harkens back to the tradition of creating bold and potent drinks, while the inclusion of grapefruit and lime juices reflects a more modern trend toward fresh, fruit-forward cocktails. The name "Flying Penguin" itself is whimsical and intriguing, perhaps suggesting the playful nature of the drink and its ability to transport the drinker to a state of buoyant enjoyment.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
