  • 1 oz Coffee Liqueur
  • 3 oz Cream

Instructions

First had this desert or dinner drink in 1981 at Jaspers restaurant in Santa Barbara, California. My husband and I order the drink at other restaurants and only one bartender (at Chucks of Hawaii in Santa Barbara) has heard of it so far. Restaurants add it to their database and anyone who has one becomes an instant fan. Who can resist a Coffee Liqueur/Amaretto frozen smoothie?Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth, approximately 10-20 seconds. *Cream and ice amounts may be altered for taste and texture.

About Flying Saucer

The Flying Saucer is a delightful and creamy cocktail that combines the rich flavors of Amaretto Di Saronno and coffee liqueur with smooth cream, served over ice. This drink is a perfect blend of nutty sweetness and deep coffee notes, creating a comforting and indulgent experience. The Amaretto, with its signature almond flavor, complements the coffee liqueur's robust taste, while the cream adds a luscious texture, making it a luxurious treat for the senses. The inclusion of ice keeps the drink refreshingly cool, enhancing its appeal as a dessert cocktail or an after-dinner delight.

The origin of the Flying Saucer cocktail is not well-documented, but its creation likely stems from the mid-to-late 20th century when liqueur-based cocktails gained popularity. Amaretto Di Saronno, an Italian liqueur with a storied history dating back to the Renaissance, and coffee liqueurs, which surged in popularity in the latter half of the 20th century, make a harmonious pair that has been creatively used in various cocktail concoctions. The Flying Saucer's name might evoke the era's fascination with space and the unknown, capturing a sense of whimsy and curiosity in its presentation and flavor profile.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
