About Matinee

The Matinee cocktail is a sophisticated blend that brings together a harmonious mix of flavors with a nod to classic cocktail culture. It features a base of sweet vermouth, which provides a mellow, herbal sweetness that is perfectly complemented by the bold, juniper-forward notes of gin. The addition of Green Chartreuse introduces a complex, herbal intensity with its secret blend of 130 botanicals, adding depth and an intriguing complexity to the drink. Fresh orange juice contributes a bright, citrusy freshness, balancing the potent spirits with its sweet-tart flavor profile. A dash of orange bitters ties everything together, enhancing the citrus notes and adding a subtle, aromatic bitterness that rounds out the cocktail.

The history of the Matinee cocktail is somewhat obscure, as it does not have the widespread recognition of other classic cocktails. However, its ingredients suggest it may have roots in the early to mid-20th century, a time when vermouth and gin-based drinks were particularly popular. The use of Green Chartreuse, a liqueur with a storied past dating back to the 18th century, adds an element of historical intrigue. The Matinee is a delightful testament to the art of mixing spirits and flavors, offering a taste experience that is both refreshing and complex, ideal for sipping during a leisurely afternoon or early evening gathering.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
