About Oaxacan Dead

The Oaxacan Dead is a vibrant and complex cocktail that brings together a medley of flavors, creating a drink that is both refreshing and intriguingly deep. At its core, the smoky essence of Mezcal offers a robust foundation, reminiscent of the rich cultural heritage of Oaxaca, Mexico. This is beautifully contrasted by the tartness of grapefruit juice and the sweet-tart profile of pomegranate juice, which adds a layer of fruity sophistication. The addition of Falernum syrup—a sweet syrup infused with flavors of lime, almond, ginger, and cloves—introduces an exotic spiciness that complements the Mezcal perfectly. Finally, a hint of cinnamon ties all these elements together, adding warmth and a fragrant finish that lingers on the palate.

The Oaxacan Dead is said to be inspired by the traditional flavors and spirits of Oaxaca, a region renowned for its Mezcal production. This cocktail not only pays homage to the region's rich cultural and culinary traditions but also embraces a modern mixology approach, blending diverse ingredients to create a drink that is both familiar and novel. Its name, evocative of the famous Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), suggests a celebration of life and remembrance, making it a fitting tribute to the vibrant spirit of Oaxaca.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
