About Sapphire Ricky

The Sapphire Rickey is a refreshing cocktail that combines the bright botanicals of gin with the zesty tang of fresh lime juice, balanced by a touch of sweetness from simple syrup, and topped off with effervescent soda water. This drink is a delightful symphony of flavors that offers a crisp, invigorating experience, perfect for a warm afternoon or a lively evening gathering. The gin provides a robust base, while the lime juice adds a tart, citrusy kick. The simple syrup tempers the acidity with a hint of sweetness, and the soda water gives it a bubbly finish.

The origins of the Rickey date back to the late 19th century, when it was originally a bourbon-based drink created in Washington, D.C. Named after Colonel Joe Rickey, a Democratic lobbyist, the original Rickey was a simple mix of bourbon, lime juice, and sparkling water. Over time, the gin variation became popular, especially during the Prohibition era, when gin was often more accessible. The Sapphire Rickey is a modern twist on this classic, maintaining the spirit of the original while highlighting the versatility of gin. This cocktail is celebrated for its simplicity, refreshing taste, and timeless appeal.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Collins Glass, though any glass works!
