About Sgroppino

The Sgroppino is a refreshing and elegant cocktail that hails from the Veneto region of Italy. Traditionally served as a palate cleanser or dessert drink, this delightful concoction combines the creamy texture of lemon gelato with the crisp effervescence of sparkling wine. The addition of vodka and lemon liqueur enhances the citrusy notes, while the zest of lemon provides a fragrant finish. The Sgroppino is known for its smooth, frothy consistency and bright, tangy flavor, making it an ideal choice for warm-weather gatherings or a sophisticated conclusion to a meal.

The origins of the Sgroppino can be traced back to the 16th century, where it was enjoyed by Venetian nobility. Its name is derived from the Italian word "sgroppare," which means "to untie" or "to loosen," reflecting its purpose of "untying" the heaviness of a meal and refreshing the palate. Over the years, the drink has evolved, but its core elements of gelato and sparkling wine have remained consistent, celebrating Italy's rich culinary traditions and love for simple yet exquisite flavors.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Champagne Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
