The Joy Division
Alcoholic Cocktail Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass 6 ingredients

Recipe

  • 2 oz. Gin
  • 1 tsp Absinthe or Anise Licorice Liqueur
  • 1 oz. Vermouth (Dry)
  • 1/2 oz. Orange Liqueur
  • Ice
  • Lemon Twist

Instructions

Combine the gin, absinthe, vermouth & orange liqueur in a shaker of separate glass with ice. Strain into an empty cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon peel. Many folks also prefer to serve over ice so it remains extra cold while drinking. You can also add a splash of lemon juice to the initial mix for an extra zest.

About The Joy Division

This cocktail is a creation of bartender Phil Ward at the New York Bar Death & Co. This is essentially a martini but can be served in any glass type you’d like. With added interest from citrus notes in the orange liqueur as well as the anise flavor from the absinthe, this will quickly become one of your favorites. It’s one of ours here at Cocktail Friend. Overall, The Joy Division is a complex and aromatic cocktail with a balance of herbal, citrus, and anise flavors, making it a sophisticated choice for those who enjoy nuanced cocktails.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!

This cocktail will humble you, it’s nap time after 2 of them. I struggled to finish one. It is tasty though :)
