The name Jonathan is not just because of the bartender who created it but also because the term Jonathan was used, in the 19th century, to describe New Englanders which is both where Renee and Jonathan are from and where the drink was created.Spoon the Powdered Sugar into the glass. Add Gin and stir until Sugar is mostly dissolved. Add rocks and Chartreuse. Top with champagne.

About Jonathan

The Jonathan cocktail is a sophisticated blend that combines the botanical nuances of gin with the herbal complexity of Yellow Chartreuse, balanced by the effervescence of champagne. The powdered sugar adds a subtle sweetness, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them. Served over ice, this drink offers a refreshing and elegant experience, perfect for sipping at a classy gathering or an intimate evening. The champagne's bubbles lift the drink, adding a celebratory note to each sip.

The origins of the Jonathan cocktail are somewhat obscure, as it doesn't have the historical prominence of classics like the Martini or Manhattan. However, it embodies the spirit of creative mixology that emerged during the late 20th and early 21st centuries, when bartenders began experimenting with diverse ingredients to craft unique, themed drinks. By incorporating Yellow Chartreuse, a liqueur with a rich history dating back to the 18th century, the Jonathan pays homage to the traditional while embracing modern flair. Its combination of ingredients reflects a trend of blending unexpected elements to create balanced and intriguing flavors.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!

Feel free to get creative with substitutions — try different fruit types, sugar substitutes, or liquor brands. Crafting cocktails should be fun!
