About Lassi - A South Indian Drink

Lassi is a traditional Indian drink, often associated with the Punjab region in North India, but enjoyed throughout the country, including South India. It is a refreshing yogurt-based beverage that can be either sweet or savory. The savory version, as described in your ingredients, is known for its cooling properties, making it a popular choice in the hot Indian climate. This drink is made by blending yogurt with water and seasoned with spices like ground roasted cumin seeds, salt, and dried mint, which gives it a unique, tangy, and slightly spicy flavor profile. The cumin adds an earthy depth, while the mint provides a refreshing lift, making it a perfect accompaniment to spicy meals.

The history of lassi dates back centuries and it is deeply rooted in Indian culture. Initially, it was a simple concoction consumed by farmers and laborers to cool off and refresh themselves in the searing heat. Over time, it gained popularity and evolved into various regional variations across India, each adding their own local ingredients and flavors. Today, lassi is not only a staple drink in Indian households but also enjoyed worldwide for its health benefits and delightful taste. Its versatility and ease of preparation continue to make it a beloved drink across different cultures and backgrounds.

This punch or party drink is non-alcoholic. Best served in a Any Glass, though any glass works!
