About Long Island Tea

The Long Island Iced Tea is a potent cocktail known for its blend of multiple spirits and a surprisingly smooth taste. Despite its name, the drink doesn’t contain any tea. Instead, it gets its tea-like color from a splash of cola. The cocktail combines equal parts vodka, light rum, gin, and tequila, mixed with the juice of half a lemon. The final touch is a splash of Coca-Cola, which not only adds color but also a hint of sweetness that balances the potent spirits. The result is a refreshing yet deceptively strong drink that’s a favorite in many bars and social gatherings.

The origins of the Long Island Iced Tea are somewhat contested, with one popular story attributing its creation to Robert "Rosebud" Butt in the 1970s at the Oak Beach Inn on Long Island, New York. Another version suggests it was invented during Prohibition in the 1920s by an "Old Man Bishop" in a community known as "Long Island" in Kingsport, Tennessee. Despite its murky origins, the Long Island Iced Tea gained widespread popularity in the late 20th century, becoming a staple on cocktail menus worldwide, known for its quick, intoxicating kick and easy-drinking nature.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Highball Glass, though any glass works!
