About Profondo Rosso

The Profondo Rosso is a vibrant and sophisticated cocktail that blends the herbal complexity of Yellow Chartreuse with the classic strength of gin and the sweet, rich notes of grenadine syrup. Named after the Italian horror film "Profondo Rosso" or "Deep Red," the drink captures the essence of its namesake with its deep, enticing color and mysterious allure. The cocktail is served over crushed ice, which not only chills the drink but also slightly dilutes the potent mix, allowing the flavors to meld together smoothly. The result is a refreshing and balanced drink that intrigues the palate with its combination of herbal, floral, and sweet notes.

The history of the Profondo Rosso cocktail is not extensively documented, but it draws inspiration from classic cocktail techniques that emphasize balancing strong spirits with sweet and herbal components. Yellow Chartreuse, a liqueur made by Carthusian monks in France, adds a unique depth to the drink with its blend of over 130 herbs and spices. Gin, a staple of many classic cocktails, provides the foundation with its juniper-forward profile. Grenadine syrup, made from pomegranate, adds the essential deep red color and sweetness that ties the drink to its cinematic namesake. Together, these ingredients create a cocktail that is both a tribute to mixology traditions and a nod to the intrigue and drama of its film inspiration.

This cocktail is alcoholic, so drink responsibly! Best served in a Rocks or Old-Fashioned Glass, though any glass works!
